Just a little update of some upcoming events or shows. Right now I am part of the Toronto Urban Photography Festival with a couple of new images from New York at the MJG Gallery at 555 Parliament Street, the show is on until the end of the month.
I've included a new image called "Corner Cowboy", a little foray into street photography and perfect for the festival.

Saturday April 6th is "Small Feats" a wonderful event now in its third year at the Niagara Artists Centre. You know the drill, all works 12x12" and $200 bucks, what a deal. One night only, details on the poster or at the link to nac's web page. I'll have new pieces especially created for this show.

Finally I have some new pieces up at my gallery in Jordan Village, Ontario in the heart of a beautiful village in wine country. If you haven't been there yet then why the heck not?
I am one of 8 partners that own and run the gallery, we have been in business since 2001. We also have a new web site so check it out. www.jordanartgallery.com We are open 6 days a week in March 10-5pm each day. Grateful

I'm home from the TAP show in Toronto and I am Grateful. Grateful  for all of the wonderful people who came to my booth. Grateful for all of you who took the time to connect with me, have great conversations and to really look at my work. Grateful that a few of you took home a piece that you wanted to live with.
I am also Grateful to my many friends that came to visit and supported me with kind words and for the new friends I made.

Finally I am grateful to be back in my own bed with my cats and can sleep in today after a long haul to be ready for the show.

What's next you say. Well applications for shows and fingers crossed for acceptances. Making art and connecting with new galleries.

I will have a piece here that was juried in for SNAP March 7th, the Aids Committee of Toronto annual photography fundraiser, tickets on sale now if you'd like to go and bid, there are live and silent auctions. I will also have two pieces in The Oakville Art Societies Art Auction at Oakville Galleries on March 2nd at Oakville Galleries, Centennial Square.

Meanwhile I am going to be creating lots of new pieces for my two upcoming gallery shows in April and May, I will post details for those soon.

Stay Grateful friends!

I guess I'll call this my blue period

I have been looking into happiness recently, reading about it, talking about it and then I realized the other day it just came back. I'd had a couple difficult years with a death in the family, change in my business, the usual things that send you into a tail spin.

But after polling my friends and purposely looking for happiness it just came back....slowly but eventually.
Not extreme happiness but just that nice underlying happiness you need in life to get you through your days.

I was working more and making art, getting stuff done. I realized it was purpose that seemed more than anything to make me happy. I had everything else one would need, home, husband, health and that wasn't working, I needed purpose.
Making art can be like that too, it is a task, with a beginning and end and a sense of satisfaction when it is done, and pride, especially if it sells and someone takes it home.

So funny when I looked at the new pieces of art I made lately and realized they are all blue, likely just because it is my favourite color and not because of my mood, but curious none the less..

You can click on the images to see them bigger.
Snow Apples 2013

All of the images were taken between 2009 and 2012. Sometimes it takes me awhile to get back to looking at earlier shoots to realize how I want to work with the image. Sometimes it is years later.

Treetop 2013

My sister Maria who is a talented painter taught me how to paint with Encaustic medium about five years ago now. I started small and never really built a body of work so I didn't have enough to show. But I have made more time for painting and created a better studio for myself. This has lead to far more space to create.

Glory 2013

It is magical working with molten wax, creating texture and shape, you can lose yourself for hours when you paint. And now I am able to go bigger and get a little more brave with my art.

Vibrations 2013

I'll be showing these 10x30" framed in natural ash at The Artist Project in Toronto this coming weekend, looking forward to the response. All of the pieces are of my images direct printed to plywood, then over painted with a bleached beeswax and resin that I mix. The pieces are then fused and left to cure, it is both  durable and archival.
